Andy Luis Olivares Miyares
Andy L. Olivares received a BSc in Mechanical Engineering (2003) and MSc in Mechanical Design (2007) from Universidad Oriente, Cuba. In 2012, he received the PhD degree in Materials Science from the Technical University of Catalonia, Spain. During his doctorate, he worked on evaluation of scaffolds for tissue engineering (TE) application. In 2011-2012, he started working as Postdoctoral Researcher in the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC); the main objective was create an experimental and computational method to control the cell seeding in TE (project MECHANOBIO). Since 2012 until 2015 he worked in THE GRAIL HEALTH project in the IBEC, working in a new scaffold to substitute the intima layer of atherosclerotic artery. In 2015, he move to the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF). From 2015-2016 he worked on BIODXA project, researching the descriptors parameters in the fracture of femur. In the present, he is involved in the project COMPILAAO, studying the role of the left atrial appendage after interventions in atrial fibrillation patients. His main research interests are multi-scale model in biomechanics and biomaterials problems using the computational fluid dynamic, agent based model, finite element methods and design in nature.
